RJ picked an unique name for every single one of them. I'd think there would be a couple of Rands or Mats out there. But we've only seen one person named Rand and one person named Mat. That's weird, but does make it easier to keep track of what each person is doing.
It's much easier if the main characters have distinctive names. Plus, this is pretty much required to bury character parralels in nearly every name.
