What people seem to forget is that the principles of Seanchan Empire led to the following scene:

1) Hungry girl got shot dead for picking up garbage outside the camp (Avi's first scene);
2) Hungry family with sick father got denied help (Avi's second scene);

Well, for me it seems very disturbing. Some posters (like moratcorlm and DottieGirl) argue that during modernization of the civilization, some cultures die, others progress. But it's not what we see as Seanchan progression. From the Avi's scenes in the glass columns we see quite the opposite - the culture of Seanchan went worse while progress went forward. For example, in the current modern world we can't imagine neither scene #1 nor scene #2. They are barbaric and inhumane for us. But not for Seanchan. They moved from protecting everyone (including Tinkers) to outright shooting helpless people.

I say it's deeply rooted in their culture to be like this: slavery, worship of Empress, annihilation of the "enemies" (real ot imaginative) of the Empire, etc.

I just hope Rand would do something about it.
