I don't think it's a trap, but I do think that it's foreshadowing for the next book. Cyndane will likely be one of the major antagonists - and Moiraine is back to take her out for good. The big question is: How will Super-Rand deal with the dilemma this time around, now that we see that he still has feeling for Meirin?
