It's been a long time since I've read the theory, but there was someone who posited that a while back (help me out, veterans... was it LitN???). It referenced a bunch of continuity errors and oddities as subtle hints that the realities we were privvy to were altered.

It was really quite an amazing (and plausable) theory.
