I won't dispute anything you said, but:
All Perrin did has to do with pride, albeit the negative form of it. Ok, you call it fear, but you name the correct reason for his fear: Losing humanity which he at that time considers to be above the existence as a wolf. So we are back at the pride. BTW, this is the same exaggerated pride the Nations in Western Europe and North America have shown towards the rest of the world for the last at least 200 years, and I do not only mean other continents but the whole of nature.
Accepting the wolf freed Perrin from this wrong idea of human superiority to the wolves, his form of false pride.
This is, BTW, one of the main streams in psychology especially in the Asian cultures. Western scientiests of course disagree, because of what I said above.
