The Ashaman's batting average against other channeler groups has been mediocre. Variant Send a noteboard - 02/12/2010 10:05:51 AM
I'm not trying to knock the Ashaman, but you have to take their victories thus far with a grain of salt. They've been effective weapons against non-channelers, but the only channeler group that they have actually faced in battle, the Seanchan's Damane, and they were bloodied to a stalemate. From Bashere's own POV in Path of Daggers, the Ashaman were becoming more and more reluctant facing off against the Damane. I don't blame them.

They also have been used primarily against non-channeler as well and again are far crappy despite their extensive training.

Oh please, The Damane have been used effectively against both Ashaman and Aes Sedai. I don't know any other force in Randland that has fought Rand and the Ashaman to a stalemate (And that was BEFORE their main fleet even arrived) or has ever carried out a successful raid against the White Tower. Considering their goal was to collar more Aes Sedai, which they effectively did, they actually gained more than they lost. They've also made great gains in Randland by consolidating Tarabon, Amadicia and Altara. Not bad for a bunch of "crappy" channelers...

Damane are just a tool to the Seanchan, like a war dog. They are chained property that is used by another. Asha'man are like Captain freaking America, super soldiers...

A war dog that can effectively destroy an entire army by itself. The Seanchan combines both their discipline conventional forces and Channellers in their military tactics, that's why the Seanchan war machine is so dangerous, and why they've made the gains they have. You don't form an empire that has lasted that long without utilizes all your weapons to their potential.

Had the Seanchan invaded the black tower instead of the white tower, there would have been a lot of dead Damane.

No, it's likely the Black Tower would have ended up a lot worse. The Black Tower has no conventional army in support, while the Tar Valon has a garrison of 30,000. Not to mention there are far more Aes Sedai that have been trained in Saidar for far longer then the Ashaman have been trained in Saidin. The Aes Sedai forming a link and circles, rendering them immune to shielding and capture was a major factor why the seanchan were forced to withdraw. The Ashaman wouldn't have that defensive advantage considering they can't link without a woman channeler.
