There's actually a pretty good chance they aren't channelers, I think. Joel Send a noteboard - 02/12/2010 02:45:41 PM
I'm at a bit of a loss to explain what they are unless the DO has been seizing and turning every male Aiel who runs north to "slay Sightblinder" when he learns he can channel. I don't really think they'd kill unveiled even then, but: Aiel Dreadlords; what a lovely thought....(8

Why not? It would certainly be a pretty awesome reveal for Demandred's position.

As for their twisted customs... the Shaido changed dramatically in less than a year (I think) so it's little surprise for me that the Shadow could twist Aiel so dramatically.

Finally, there's a chance that they aren't channelers, but are more or less indoctrinated to not feel emotion. If real world militaries can do that, why can't the DO?

That WOULD be a pretty impressive reveal for Demandred, and if we haven't seen him we probably haven't seen the site of his powerbase. Your point about the Shaido is well made, though even when they abandoned virtually all their honor they still veiled before killing. Of course, they weren't intentionally serving the DO either (technically we don't even KNOW these new Aiel are, though their arrival and actions amid an attack by the Shadow heavily imply it). They could simply be Darkfriend Aiel who answered a call to arms and found themselves in Kandor, mutilating themselves along the way (you have to admit, it's more distinctive and less likely to be mimiced as a false flag than red armbands are. :P) That or captured and turned male channelers are the most logical and least complicated explanations for what are otherwise a new variable casually tossed in at the very end of the next to last book.

The Aiel at the end are Aiel because they have veils (which they didn't replace before killing). - 01/12/2010 02:01:17 PM 673 Views
