Not at all Comet Sedai Send a noteboard - 05/12/2010 05:54:11 PM
In fact, I struggle to think of a single prominent figure in real life or in fiction who was red headed.

Frankly, I think RJ, with his love of history and historic figures (both real and mythological) purposely made Rand redheaded in order to make him appear Messianic, as in, a scion of King David (of Israel), who was famously redheaded.

And let's not forget he's from the Aiel, who are made up of 12 tribes. And the whole 'born of a maiden' thing. It's true that that culturally, the Aiel are more patterned on Native American tribes than the tribes of Israel, but RJ loved to mix it up, what with Mat and Perrin having mythological connections to Norse gods and all. And the whole King Arthur thing with Egwene Al'Vere.
The chief difficulty Alice found at first was in managing her flamingo.

I think the Norse god Tyr was often portrayed with red-hair - 05/12/2010 01:18:28 PM 2622 Views
