There's also the mother of Rand's children who happens to be Egwene's best friend

which is weird because I've had this conversation a few times already. guttering flame's reply on the Bela thread reminded me.
Moiraine is the closest tie that Egwene and Rand have to each other. Or perhaps she's tied with Nynaeve. Either way, Egwene likes and respects Moiraine. Rand loves Moiraine. If anyone can help them work together it's her. Nynaeve doesn't have enough tact

I can totally see Elayne trying to be the peacemaker between Rand and Egwene, that's been her role often in the series.
Come to think of it, all three of Rand's girls are good friends with Egwene and she respects them (though she hasn't met Min in ages). This could play a part in the upcoming confrontation. Egwene has so many connections to rand even apart from them growing up together.
Moiraine too, of course, will probably be important in this. She's probably the only female channeller legendary and badass enough to openly stand up to the Amyrlin right now.
There's so much potential for great character interactions at Merrilor, with all those reunions upcoming, it's a shame the Trollocs are attacking everywhere and will probably force the meeting to be over quickly
The Importance of Moiraine..what is it now?
