How should they contend with Egwene if they can't whallop her?

If your only method of working with someone is to wallop them if they disagree, you don't have any business negotiating with them in the first place. That just makes you a bully.

It could be that she decides to go with Rand's plan. Given most people here's opinion of her, I can see how you'd find that hard to believe. However she hasn't exactly been given much information, so you can't blame her thinking twice.

Rand walked in, said "I'm going to do this this way, do come along" and left. Yes, he is the Dragon Reborn, but he has also been quite unstable until recently. WE know how much better he is. Egwene has only this encounter. Once everyone meets and is actually given information, they could all be much more amiable to the idea. Particularly if there are testimonials like a Min-vision or Moiraine showing up and going "no, this must be done."

Let's not forget Rand ta'averen-ness.
