I've theorized before (with no evidence, admittedly) that the DO was once human (many spins of the wheel ago). Perhaps Rand will not just Seal the Bore, but will actually kill him, only for Fain to become the latest DO equivalent. He certainly has the malice/insanity/control-freak/hate factors.
