What he did at Maradon is not inexplicable in terms of the One Power alone, without any strength or skill beyond what Lews Therin Telamon had (and yes, that means Ishamael, or Demandred, or Lanfear... probably most of the Forsaken, could've massacred an undefended army similarly). That he can command other abilities now in addition to saidin – command of his ta'veren nature, appearing painfully bright to Darkfriends, the Fisher King stuff – doesn't change that.
