Except for plot reasons, it makes no sense not to at least use tied off weaves at the start, before progressing onto attacking ones.
Disagree. The Asha'man were completely spent at Maradon, wasting energy on tied weaves could have made the difference between lasting until Rand arrived, or losing the battle entirely.
