He first discovered his luck in Tar Valon, when he won dice game after dice game all night and then escaped the city on a ship. That was only a few days after being healed from his connection/dependency on the shadar logoth dagger. It was many months after that that he went with Rand to the Waste and entered Rhuidean.


He was pretty lucky as a kid too. IIRC he thinks to himself about all the times he got busted when he made plans to do some mischief, but things he did spur of the moment were the things he usually got away with.


we know he definitely thinks of himself as lucky as early as his time in shienar during teotw. possibly even prior to that.

He only meant to gamble an hour or so before finding a ship, just long enough to add a few coins to his purse, but he won. He had always won more than he lost, as far as he could remember, and there had been times with Hurin, and in Shienar, when six of eight tosses in a row won for him.
