that RJ intended that Rand did actually kill Graendal in TGS, and that her survival was a retcon. I think that Graendal's ToM actions could easily have been done by Lanfear, and that they would in fact have led to her being 'punished' the way we see at the end of ToM.
It's not a novelty: it is pretty plain to everyone that Greandal in ToM is completely screwed up and makes no sense, just like you said.
