tar valon.net notes that in WH Ch. 21, her mother was captain of the Empress' Fleets. Then I grabbed my copy and checked. Yes. Her momma was the Empress' so'jihn.
It is a pretty clear mistake, and you made a nice catch there.
I don't see how a ship captain would be made a slave without Egeanin ending up a slave too. Also, I don't see E's mom having been a slave, then being made a captain. I can't afford to search more, though.

I have one little question about Egeanin that's been bothering me. In one book - WH, I believe? - she thinks to herself that her mother was a 'Captain of the Gold', and so'jhin to the Empress herself. And this is odd because so'jhin are Imperial da'covale, and all the descendants of an Imperial da'covale share that status. The "mark of the raven is forever" business. Yet Egeanin was free. Just a mistake?
