Rhuidean was unenterable in TAR, but Rand and Asmo had no difficulty Traveling there. It was most likely just warded, and all the wards were destroyed during Rand and Asmo's battle.
As far as additional things a dreamspike can do, can it stop skimming as well as travelling? I can't recall if Perrin's Ashaman or the BT Ashaman ever tried it. One thing it doesn't seem to be able to do is stop people from entering TAR in the flesh. But, I'm actually kind of hoping that it /can't/ do anything besides what we already know, because there's only one book left and not much time to introduce more McGuffins.
