If I recall correctly, the beatings were before Halima started hanging out with Egwene, and started just after Halima got there.
Actually, Halima had already started "giving" Egwene headaches and the consequent head massages by this point. She had in fact already killed one or two-I can't remember which-of Egwene's other maids at this stage to gain more time waiting on Egwene. Of course, she/he is a prime suspect as she was in place in the rebel camp.
