The only theory that I've been able to come up with is that it was one last test by the Wise Ones before Avi entered Rhuidean. I'm pretty sure the whole thing was a dream, and really, who else would have bothered going to such theatrical lengths to challenge the preconceptions of one Aiel Wise-One-to-Be?
