I believe the Bore is a special sort of Gateway, and like all other Gateways it can be unwoven. When the Aes Sedai in the AoL detected a new power source (the DO) they only found a weakness in the Pattern, not a sealed Bore. And since time is cyclical, the Bore has to disapear completely before the next 2nd age. I believe that will happen at the end of the curent age, so Rand must unweave the Bore not seal it.
In the last chapter of ToM we see Lanfear begging for help, and I believe she is genuine. We know she's controlled by a mindtrap and she has every reason to resent her present situation. I think Rand will save her and she'll return to the light. Then she'll tell Rand all he needs to know to unweave the Bore. After all, she led the team that drilled it, and she knows everything about how it was done.

It depends on if I was a hero or a villain; either way, I would have used the Choedan Kal.
