and since I have a one-track mind (Moiraine's return) the timing pissed me off as well. He finds out Lanfear's alive before he finds out Moiraine's alive. So her being alive will be less of a surprise. I was already annoyed enough that he fixed his own problem on Dragonmount and it had nothing to do with her 
. Now all that needs to happen to top off the destroying of their reunion is for Perrin to accidentally tell Rand that Mat and Thom are at the tower of ghenjei rescuing her.
Anyhoo, I just hope that was Rand's last thought of desiring her. It's completely backtracking to book 4 Rand. It's definitely not the only case of characters reverting to their book 4-6 selves in the past two books.

I place a lot of stock on the importance of Moiraine, too - and it didn't occur to me 'til now how that dream might undermine it. Great point. Of course, Rand could assume that the DO would have access to her soul anyway, but your point seems stronger...
But I don't even know if it's back-tracking. Rand in book 4 said her beauty made his mouth water, but that can be subtly different than desiring someone. This actual attraction is more like a return to book 2, except Rand's not an abstemious fool this time.
Not to mention the fact that this so looks like a trap/plan to distract Rand's attention. And a really obvious one, too.
Oh, the problems with this plot development!...
