Most of the world's women semi-distrusts men. Why? Because Aes Sedai- the world's most powerful and influential women- have no men in their ranks, and spend much of their time hunting down men who could destroy the world.
Not saying the world is totally against men, but I think a bit of a subconscious tinge is always there.
