He is so stupidly heroic. Looking at the 3 half-brothers (Gawyn, Galad, Rand), Galad's the only sane one left.

I mean, fighting for something you don't believe in is a little wonky, but it didn't seem much of a stretch to believe he'd try to be heroic. And it's easy for us to think he's stupid, seeing as how we have all the info he doesn't.:P I've fallen into that myself a time or two.
