To me, Gawyn seems to have no capability to actually think. He fights for Elaida, simply because Siuan sent his sister and the girl he has a crush on out of the Tower. Then he lets Siuan and Leane leave the Tower simply because Min asks him to. He was willing to kill Warders to keep Siuan a prisoner, but not willing to expose a friend to punishment.

Then, after he finds Egwene and learns that she and Elayne are clearly against Elaida, he still follows the Aes Sedai from the Tower. Then, he realizes they are plotting to have him and the entire group of Younglings killed, and he STILL follows the Aes Sedai and helps them, even returning to Tar Valon with them. I know he has a sense of duty and all, but he can't seem to add one and one and come up with two. He has a fool reason for doing everything he does, but each reason is contradictory to all his other reasons. Galad at least turned to ideals he believed in, even if he ignored the fact that the Children as a whole no longer held to its own founding ideals.

Gawyn's entire family has above average intelligence, so it's frustrating that he seems about the most dim-witted character of all.
