Asmodean's murder was never meant to be something important, but it became huge in the community. The authours had to either retcon it into being significant or prepare for massive disappointment when fans realised there was nothing dramatic in the reveal.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
