Moiraine thought she was as good as dead, but while being tortured, she had time to think over her life and the mistakes she had made. One of her first acts upon her return was to take a chance at happiness with Thom. Maybe she'll teach Rand a lesson about having the experience of failure in your mind (as he does from LTT's memories) but not allowing that memory to undermine your future actions.
