Re: I thought Moiraine saw Moridin or somebody in there looking for Lanfear? Sidious Send a noteboard - 23/02/2012 02:14:05 PM
Yeah, Moiraine's really tough when she has a good shot at your back, and Lanfear is an unhinged lunatic coasting on the power of the Dark One. For people who can manipulate reality, they ARE easy meat. Rand was protected by the treaties.

They were probably unconscious, which is the point.

Why would Lanfear not be similarly comatose?

I'm sure she was, that's the point.

Than who was the guy who came in, looked at Moiraine and pretty much said "No, not her. Who else do you have?" I don't have the books handy, but I thought Moiraine told Mat & Thom about someone who was shown her, but was actually seeking someone else.

Yes I forgot about that, but it is possible that she was dead and they told Moridin that. Alternatively he purchased her somehow, but I'm not sure how killing her later would benefit him.

Why? If she got drained all the way, how would she come back weaker? Either she would be the same as she was before falling in, or she would be totally gone. Why would she be reincarnated or put in a new body at partial strength? The most likely explanation is that Moridin came and ransomed her back before all that much of her strength was drained, or at least killed her so she could be put in a new body.

I think its a balance between draining the person and killing them. If they drain you too quickly you probably die, much like having your life force drained. If they do it slowly you become physically weak but you do not die. My other point is that the strength reduction may be permanent if they draining is linked to the soul, which I think it might be. In that case, Moiraine will always come back weaker. I should have explained that in the original post but skipped several steps.
