You don't think Nakomi did it? LoialT Send a noteboard - 10/01/2013 07:54:20 PM
...on Rand's part?

In the first place, he appears to have anticipated his survival, as the first thing he does upon awakening is observe that Alivia did her job in providing him with exit support. How was that arranged beforehand?

"Hey, Alivia buddy, there's a chance I might live through this

Pretty much.

I was set up with that scene where Cadsuane (Or was it Moiraine, I forget which) tells Rand he shouldn't go to the battle taking his death for granted.

He did listen, and planned something. And yeah, it was to vanish, in disguise (inverted MoM) with as few people as possible aside from his three women and Alivia knowing.

He didn't foresee the Moridin solution, that "of course" moment came as he exited SG. "Of course, I didn't understand but now I do.. I need not vanish, I need to fake my death".

I'm pretty sure he did like the pipe: he thought himself as Moridin, and thought Moridin as "Rand"... and it happened.

When he stumbles out of SG, slipping on blood, I figured he was still in Rand's body. But then he glances up at a gray-haired Aiel-garbed woman who no one else ever mentions. She kneels besides the two bodies after Rand trips and says "Yes, that's good. That is what you need to do." Sounds a lot like Nakomi to me, and that she either swapped or helped Rand to swap bodies right then.

He seems surprised after he wakes up that his wounds are healed and his hand back. Or maybe he doesn't...? "Shouldn't he be hurting? … For the first time in a long while, there was no pain. He almost didn't know what to make of it." ALMOST didn't know. So maybe it wasn't planned, but he also has a pretty good idea what happened? Hard to say, but I am just glad that the body swap was not part of the plan to trick the Dark One. Still not sure how I feel about the True Power being used against Shai'tan, but the book does make abundantly clear that Shai'tan is a necessary force for reality and freedom, for choice, so maybe the True Power is not inherently evil. It is destruction. And pure destruction mixed with pure creation (pure saidin and saidar) was the only way to reforge reality.

I have to say I was definitely totally faked out by Shaisam. I definitely thought for a moment that Shaisam and Shai'tan were going to somehow unite in a yin yang way like saidar and saidin.
