I do think he should have at least let Nynaeve, Tam and Perrin know. Mat kinda dissapointed me by being so indifferent to Rand's death, so maybe not bothering to tell him wouldn't be such a big deal.
Theres another, related thing that kinda bugs me about his decision. What about all his AOL knowledge? A guy with 400 years of experiance in such an advanced Age could do a hell of alot to improve the quality of life and ethical standards in government we see in this Age if he stuck around and made an effort. Especially if said person was in a position to be revered by most of the poluation and have their advice given due weight. It's kinda irresponsible of him to just run off like that. Granted he's earned the right to be irresponsible, but still...
