Moridin isn't a dupe - he's the only Forsaken who understands what the DO's victory will mean, and he really wants it. He wants the destruction of everything, and most of all, he is tired of being spun out to fight Lews Therin over and over again.
This was what I used to think, that Moridin was basically a buddhist, and the only one to get it. However, didn't it turn out during Rand's confrontation with the Dark One that nothing isn't actually what the Dark One wants?
I don't really agree about Demandred. I thought he was spectacular.
I thought so too. It was all I could do for several minutes after he appeared to say "Wow. Demandred is so evil."
He basically managed to conquer a whole continent that no one else even thought about. Rand and the others had no idea how many people even lived there, so for all they knew, Demandred could have shown up with his own personal army to match the combined forces of Randland.
That said, I was a bit disappointed that the Sharans thought it seemed reasonable to fight alongside shadowspawn. Some defection would have been expected, I think.
