If the pattern wanted Egwene to stay Amyrlin, it could have manipulated events to ensure that outcome. It is the LB, the end of an age, and Egwene is tied to 3 ta'veren.
The pattern probably doesn't interfere with the day to day lives of non ta'veren individuals, unless it needs a certain event to happen or a major shift in the direction of wotworld.
Cadsuane was the better choice to lead the WT into the new age.
