Certainly RJ deserves some of the blame. But pacing issues were not the only issue with AMOL darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 10/02/2013 02:45:02 PM
Brandon in some ways fundamentally changed the series by robbing us of characters like Flinn, Narishma and Logain ... along with others ... I didn't dislike the Pevara/Androl plot, but it didn't have the feel of a WOT POV to me. The characters were more Brandon's than RJs and as Dominic pointed out it gave Androl too much of the leadership of the BT. Quite honestly it felt "cute" and a little out of place in WOT.

RJ may have been ponderously slow in wrapping up plot lines, but he was consistent. COT/WH overlap issues are much easier to understand nice you've read both books and understand that they take place concurrently, not an excuse just an observation. Brandon seemed a little all over the place and his focus on the battle for hundreds of pages seemed like so much wasted effort. The fighting itself could have been 1/3 as long and still have effectively done the job, cheap surprises like the Sharan ambush took away the readers introduction to Demandred and denying us nearly the entirety of the battle for the Black Tower on top of how Logain ended up captured pretty much pissed me off ... Top that off with ignoring the Black Ajah altogether and showing all of this thought the eyes of a new "Brandon" character and I am not satisfied with the end product. TGS was, IMHO, the best of Bramdons books TOM and AMOL were poorly executed and rushed ... Possibly more to do with TOR and deadlines than Brandon, but so many of his choices seemed geared to making the series a little more in his voice, when his job was essentially to ghost write the finale.

I don't want to be too hard on Brandon as I think he took on a Herculean task and the deadlines were horribly fast. I doubt he knew how difficult it was going to be when he signed up and he did a good job with what he had to work with, I just think he tried to hard to put his own stamp on the series.
Domani Drag Queen in the White Tower ... Aran'gar watch out!

So, am I the only one who kind of liked the whole Androl/Pevara plot? - 31/01/2013 02:30:15 PM 2165 Views
It was extremely irritating... - 31/01/2013 02:34:32 PM 1210 Views

It felt like a plot tacked on as a vanity by Sanderson - 31/01/2013 02:49:09 PM 975 Views

I kind of always thought RJ intended the minor characters to be bland - 03/02/2013 12:00:33 AM 829 Views

I hated it because it reeked of sanderson pandering to "internet humour" for lack of a better term. - 31/01/2013 04:47:54 PM 931 Views
Yep. I know what you mean, though it's hard to exactly quantify. - 31/01/2013 04:49:12 PM 877 Views
