Mat and several others were all killed at the battle in Camelyn. When Rand hit Ravin with Balefire it undid their deaths and that would have severed Mat's tie to the horn. I have been wondering about this ever since that time but since I hadn't read anything about it on here or WOT mania I figured I was way off base and let it go.
