Balefire just removes your thread temporarily from the pattern, but somehow the pattern eventually respins you back into the weave.
The reason the Dark One can't resurrect balefire is that he must be holding your thread right when you die before you are put in the pattern's "discarded for now, respin later pile."
Even if the Dark One is holding your thread normally (like he does for all the chosen), balefire elludes him for you died a few minutes before the balefire, so the Dark One didn't grab you at the time of your death.

Honestly it is probably in the Chosen's best interest to be Balefired, if you are going to lose at least lose in such a way that you can have a normal life in the future.
