What is the taint of Shadar Logoth? I thought this was clearly explained when the history of Shadar Logoth was told by Moiriane. I believe the taint of Shadar Logoth is simply the inherent evil that is possible of man. It is, as mentioned many times, separate from the evil of the Dark One, which is a sort of pure evil.
The Creator imprisioned the Dark One, but let humans--and their inherent evil--be free. Why? Because they aren't pure evil. But sometimes you need to do "bad" things in order to defeat things that are worse. The ability for humans to do evil will help them defeat the Dark One. Balefire is a perfect example of this.
The Shador Logoth evil is simply human evil distilled into an entity of its own, which makes it convienent for things like cleansing the taint on saidin.
