Indeed. We've seen a lot of Asmodean, but we know very little about him as an actual channeler. He may have Talents, though we don't know of any. I suspect that, like Moghedien, he is an average channeler who learns only about what benefits him. His inability to break through a tied off shield is a sign of his mediocrity, because even Osan'gar says he can break through a tied off shield if he has time.
His inability to break through the tied shield tells us more about his character than skill imo. Breaking through a shield is apparently painful, something like putting your hands in the fire to get chestnuts. His inability to go through that is tied to the reason he went over to the Dark One in the first place: he fears death.
Also weren't the weaves he made during the time we saw him pretty good? His Traveling platform was big, indicating his powers of imagination/conceptualization were strong, which might also tie in to good abilities in the dream world
