I think Egwene had three kill counts going. RugbyPlayingAshaman Send a noteboard - 04/11/2009 04:31:07 PM
These are the counts I recall from her POV
1) Sul'dam killed and/or damane who had their leashes removed
2) Larger to'raken that are able to carry people, and were likely used to carry away Aes Sedai as prisoners and transport troops and pairs of sul'dam and damane into Tar Valon
3) Raken that carried scouts and likely as not, were actually the creatures that were in the air for the longest time with damane hurling weaves against the Tower (there is a specific note of to'raken latching on to the Tower and then taking off without a running start since they were so high up in the air - I don't think to'raken are normally capable of this due to their size); these are smaller than to'raken and most likely formed the larger part of the attack force providing cover with fireballs and the wall destroying weaves

The counts are somewhat confused, but what I noticed is that Egwene not only fought off the raken/to'raken that were directly hurling weaves and troops into the Tower but also the raken/to'raken who were leaving with Aes Sedai prisoners from other parts of the Tower not visible from the area of the 22nd floor that she and her Novices (and eventually Accepted and Aes Sedai of the latter we know of about 40 that she rescued) held during the battle. She specifically gives the order that any raken carrying prisoners should be killed - I think a lot of these numbers are vague because getting an accurate count of damage during pitched battle is not as neat and easy as counting spoons in a kitchen. Many of the sul'dam, damane, raken, soldiers and to'raken that she destroyed were vaporized with no remains to get an accurage count. Also, take into account that the larger to'raken refuse to fly further than the closest landing point after being injured - likely as not, these descended from Egwene's vantage point only to meet with the forward command center's Sisters on the first floor of the building.

Thus, it seems to me highly possible that Egwene did much more damage than the counts we are given but we never got an accurate count of the raken/to'raken she destroyed who were escaping with Aes Sedai prisoners. Furthermore, we don't have counts for the opponents she lead her command force against but didn't actively engage - ie: the ones killed by the Novice circles or the rescued Aes Sedai that were on her floor.

I think the best way to view it is that there was a lot more killing going on then we saw on-screen. After all, when she rescues Adelorna, the Seanchan soldiers start to run away when we are told that Egwene raised a hand in their direction. Adelorna (sp) is so focused on Egwene that she doesn't turn to see what Egwene is raising her hands towards but my guess is that she was destroying them with the Power. After all, they were not only capturing Aes Sedai but killing any that resisted.

I was worried about the bloodknives, at first, since they were ordered to remain behind and kill as many Sisters as possible, but I don't think they are a threat sufficient to handle a Sister focused on survival - the only reason Siuan was threatened was because she was Healing some warriors.
