This wasn't really a mistake.
Nynaeve already knew that Traveling to a location would give her the knowledge of the location to Travel from there. What she didn't think of (but Rand did) was traveling a short hop from somewhere you don't know specifically for the purpose of learning the spot you are Traveling to.
