Gawyn is simply a bully that uses his unbelievable swordsmanship skills to get his way. In the way of brains, he's dumb as a doornail. I honestly don't know what Egwene sees in him, aside from the fact that his name is related to the King Arthur tales and that he's of royal blood.
Good looks, skill with the sword and the brains of doorknob. Of course Egwene will hang on to him.
