She was named as being the strongest among the rebels at one point, or at least having very few peers among them. Only Lelaine and Romanda were stronger with Kiruna and Kwamesa at the same strength. That could have elevated her to a higher level among the Blacks. Galina was also strong. Alviarin we know is at least strong enough to channel, though I suspect she was chosen for other reasons.
