Not that I think you're wrong, but where was it said the sword was found under the sea? Can you tell me which chapter?
I've seen people say this on other boards too, but never came across it in my read. Either I'm totally dense, or the Dark One has tampered with my book!

It is near the end in a Min PoV. It was found submerged beneath a statue. Personally, I don't think it was a sea. This is largely due to a mythological reference to Excalibur. There are two stories about how King Artur found Excalibur; the first is the sword in the stone and the second is that King Artur obtained it from the Lady of the Lake. This second tale has Excalibur found later in King Artur's career and its scabard has magical properties as well. Interestingly enough, Excalibur was marked on both sides with a griffin instead of a dragon.

Maybe I'm stupid, but why would Hawkwing have been using Lews Therin's sword?

Wouldn't Lews Therin's sword be buried under Dragonmount? And didn't Rand say it was his own memory?
