United States Marine Officers wear swords with their dress uniform. I think it is fair to say the US military technology has advanced to beyond the point where they would actually use the swords in combat, yet they are still a part of the uniform. It could be something akin to that as well.


Yes, but that'd suggest that the leaders would also wear them around... Obama with a heron marked blade would be pretty good, though.



Only if those leaders fought. Our leaders never take up a weapon and personally assail the enemy. Lews Therin did at least once we know for sure, when he sealed the bore. There are many other references to him fighting in the book. Plus the circumstantial evidence of his familiarity of "weaponized weaves"
