When you say he seems obsessed about balefire as the means to kill Asmodean do you mean that he keeps hinting it WASN'T balefire or that it WAS balefire?

That "Brandon refuses to confirm or deny that the One Power was used to kill Asmodean. He also mentions a Slayer scene deleted from the Shadow Rising which would have shown more about Slayer’s powers."

If anything, this rather supports that Slayer killed Asmo.

When I spoke with Brandon, I asked him if we'd get any more backstory or origin for Shaidar Haran. I tried to lead him toward the little accepted theory on the possibility of Asmodean being reborn as a punishment in the body of a Myrddraal, namely Shaidar Haran. Just to test the waters of the possibility. He said that we wouldn't see any more backstory on Shaidar Haran, but that we would see more from him and his abilities and weaknesses. He also seemed to dismiss the possibility of Asmodean being capable of being reborn due to ~and he specifically referred to this ~ balefire. He didn't give the wishy-washy "methods and circumstances of his death prevented it", he used the term balefire. He fell a fraction short of declaring outright that balefire was the method of execution, but it was the only method he brought up when we were discussing the death and possibility of rebirth . I don't consider this definitive proof that balefire was used or I'd be yelling it from the mountaintop. Nor if it were balefire does it implicitly indicate Graendal. However, I think he is/was a supporter of the Graendal/Balefire theory, whatever the actual revelation ends up finally being.
