That is actually a pretty good theory.... interesting Matrimony Cauthon Send a noteboard - 21/11/2009 03:28:30 PM
Here is the quandary we are currently in: Rand's new sword was made in the Age of Legends and was made with fancier ornamentation than any other sword we have seen from the AoL. This means the sword was made for someone important. Lan claimed that the sword that Tam gave to Rand was made for someone such as a general, while Lan's non-heron marked blade was made for more of a common soldier.

Extrapolating from this, if Tam's blade was made from someone important than Rand's new dragon blade must have been made for someone very important during the AoL. Due to the dragon on the sword, it would have to be for either the Dragon, LTT himself, or for one of his close confidents.

Rand's sword has a much deeper history than just being Artur Hawkwing's Justice.

If Lews Therin was wearing it during his death scene, then it is impossible. I doubt even a Power wrought blade could have survived that, then being buried in the heart of an active volcano.

If he was not wearing it, then it is feasible it could have survived. Good chance, but Rand only recognized it as Hawkwing's.

The swords of the Age of Legends have an air of minimalism. They are very basic and simplistic. The only ornament we see them having is a small heron, marking high rank. A sword decorated with a big colorful dragon break this mold.

I believe it would be more realistic to assume that the False Dragon in Hawkwing's time created this sword for himself, perhaps as a Callandor replacement since he didn't manage to obtain that sword. It was such a marvelous and one of a kind sword that Hawkwing kept is as his own. Perhaps after defeating the F. Dragon in a duel (while AS shielded him?)

It also explains why Rand is reluctant to tell anyone what he knows about this Sword's history.

Didn't Rand see Hawkwing's ghost, summoned by the Horn of Valere? *NM* - 20/11/2009 09:14:35 PM 439 Views
Yes. *NM* - 20/11/2009 09:30:34 PM 383 Views
It can't be Turak's sword as that had a heron on it and Rand's new sword doesn't - 20/11/2009 10:40:24 PM 819 Views
Lews Therin did not wield Callandor (probably). - 20/11/2009 11:02:26 PM 812 Views
No, IIRC he didn't use it when creating the Seal. - 21/11/2009 01:54:41 AM 681 Views
The sword does NOT have a dragon on it - 21/11/2009 02:41:38 PM 824 Views

Rand didn't recognize it from LTT's memories though, he said. - 20/11/2009 09:28:51 PM 859 Views
Very true, but he also wasn't fully integrated with LTTs memories at that time - 20/11/2009 10:36:03 PM 750 Views
Which makes me wonder. What is Hawking fighting with when the Horn of Valere is blown? *NM* - 21/11/2009 12:42:04 AM 340 Views
