Re: Does anyone think Harriet won't commission the outrigger trilogy? randfandom Send a noteboard - 24/11/2009 07:38:05 PM
Part of me hopes Harriet decides to end the series with AMoL, but I can't imagine her deciding not to have the outrigger books written and published. Even if it comes to light that RJ only left the most scanty and open-ended of notes, which I think might well be the case, I think the books could still be expected to sell thousands upon thousands of copies and to satisfy many WoT fans. Can anyone envision a scenario in which she would opt to end the series with AMoL?

I think this needs to be decided based on the amount of notes for each. I would like to read the prequels, especially the one about Tam's finding of Rand. I thought Brandon Sanderson's depiction of Tam was spot on, and none of the characters in that story are likely to have a lot of face time in the main series (except maybe Rand, but he would be just a baby), so the chances of discrepancies are far smaller. I think this one has the best chance to succeed with a new author.

I hope they don't publish the post-TG outrigger novels, unless the notes for them are very detailed and Brandon gets a better grasp of the characters of Tuon and Mat. I felt both of them lost a lot of the subtleties that made them so special in the last two books, and reduced them to somewhat cartoonish versions of themselves. Reading three novels about them that way would be too much... Of course, he could get better in ToM when they get more face time, so I will hold off my judgement till he completes the main series.
