I think a legitimate effort could be made to do those books justice. And at this point in time, I don't think Sanderson would be willing to do any less... he would pour his whole heart into the outriggers and prequels, or he would NOT do them.
Just my opinion, though. The money-grubbing scenario is certainly a possibility... just not one I think fits the people involved.
