Egwene, for example, felt a sense of responsibility for the Two Rivers girls, and this was part of why she took Bode Cauthon's (Mat's little sister's) place when it came time to transform the harbour chain. I chose to interpret this sense of responsibility also being to honor her tie to Mat by looking after his family to the best of her ability.

She didn't quite thank him for the rescue in Tear, though, because it was a teamwork effort, and I don't think any of the girls took time to explain to him that the only reason he wasn't blasted into oblivion when he showed up was because Egwene had Shielded Amico Nagoyin and the three girls Stilled that Black Sister when the Shield Amico had held was broken.
