There are just more Asha'man now than there were a couple of months ago. They continually recruit (as Verin mentioned to Mat that hasn't stopped). I think the BT is something akin to boot camp. Basic training before you are churned out onto the front lines. Probably a few weeks to get the basics then sent out with more senior level men to learn on the job, so to speak.
