I think what they think is a flaw makes it entirely different. Maybe the lack of buffer allows different levels of power drawing for the male w/o burning him out. Maybe it was made that way on purpose, and is not, in fact, flawed.

Maybe it could be used in conjunction with another angreal or ter'angreal. Hm. That makes me want to go back to Elayne's chapters. Ugh.

But yes, I'm curious now whether the one hand/two hand thing is a mistake or a clue.
