The White Aes Sedai Norine Dovarna? (to recapitulate the arguments that she is Mesaana shortly: Norine is described as a dreamy White Sister with no friends; she is the first time mentioned in ACoS; she shows hostility towards Alviarin; had contact with Egwene & Leane in KoD; has large liquid eyes; and seems to Egwene „often as vague as any Brown“ ).

In TGS, prologue, Graendal notes that Mesaana wears a plain white dress: "Mesaana seated herself. She had chin-length dark hair and watery blue eyes. Her floor-length white dress bore no embroidery, and she wore no jewelry. A scholar to the core."

In TGS, ch.16, Egwene has to attend to three Whites. While the Sitter of the Whites, Ferane, wears an auburn dress, Egwene says that "the other two, Miyasi and Tesan, both wore white, as if they feared that dresses of any other colors were a betrayal of their Ajah. That notion was becoming more and more common among all of the Aes Sedai."

This new notion would explain the sudden change between Mesaana's russet silk dress seen in LoC, the bronze-embroidered green dress seen in CoT, the darker pattern-embroidered bronze dress seen in KoD and her plain white dress seen in the prologue of TGS. In order not to stand out among the normal Whites in the current situation, Mesaana doesn't wear these richer dresses anymore, but does what many of the other AS do as well, and wears a dress in the color of her Ajah, namely completely white.

That quote about novices doesn't apply to a Forsaken, though... - 04/12/2009 06:39:04 PM 345 Views
